Dembele’s Growing Struggles In French Football This Season
Dembele struggled to give a good account of himself as the focal point of Lyon’s attack last season. The French talent managed to score just three goals and pick up one assist in 28 appearances for the French outfit during this campaign in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has failed to prove his worth in the final third as he has seen most of his appearances coming off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 1.2 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He also struggled to be accurate with his ball distribution up top after completing 72.9% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
Dembele’s current contract at the French club will run out at the end of this month which could open the door for Everton to sign him on a free transfer this summer.
What Will Dembele Bring To Everton?
Dembele can create a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He used to be a prolific goal-scorer in the Ligue 1 but failed to perform consistently at Lyon this year. The French sensation has struggled to earn regular first-team starts at the Groupama Stadium. Thus, it makes sense for him to seal a move elsewhere in search of greener pastures this summer.
Dembele will bring more goals to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s attack if he can find a way to make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
The Ligue 1 centre-forward is far from prolific in front of the opponent’s goal but could be a decent signing for the Toffees on a free transfer during this summer transfer window. At 26, he has his best years ahead of him which makes him an ideal option for the Merseyside club to consider ahead of the new campaign.
