In a recent report, RMC Sport stated that Chelsea are tempted to make a move for Monaco defender Axel Disasi this summer. It has been revealed that the Blues are planning to move in for the French centre-back during this summer transfer window.
Disasi’s Impressive Run Of Form In Ligue 1
Disasi enjoyed a solid campaign at the French club after he put in a handful of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the field. The 25-year-old scored six goals and grabbed four assists in 49 matches for Monaco last season in multiple competitions.
The France international has been a rock at the back based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 2.9 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back as evidenced by his pass success rate of 83.8% in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Blues will have to make a convincing offer if they want to recruit the French talent.
What Will Disasi Bring To Chelsea?
Disasi is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. The French sensation is primarily a centre-back but can also function as a right-back if asked to do so.
We can expect Disasi to bring more bite and steel to Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s defensive department. He would also serve as an ideal long-term successor to Thiago Silva at the West London club. The Frenchman is good enough to help Chelsea compete for a European spot in the English first division next season.
At 25, Disasi is about to enter the peak years of his playing career which makes him a decent choice for the Blues to consider during this summer transfer period. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football if Chelsea can manage to win the race for his services.
