In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba wants to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer. It has been revealed that the Burkina Faso international is eager to join Spurs during this summer transfer window.
Tapsoba’s Impressive Run Of Form In German Football Last Season
Tapsoba enjoyed a solid campaign in the Bundesliga after he produced a string of dominant displays for Leverkusen on the defensive end of the field. The Burkina Faso sensation made 47 appearances for the German outfit last season, netting two goals and earning a couple of assists in multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in the Bundesliga. He was even careful with his ball distribution as he completed 85.8% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, Spurs would have to make a good offer if they decide to move in for Tapsoba in this off-season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglou Snap Tapsoba Up?
Tapsoba is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.94m, Tapsoba is a towering presence inside his penalty box and can win his fair share of aerial duels.
The Burkina Faso talent has proven himself to be a reliable centre-back in Bundesliga. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football if Tottenham can get him on board this summer.
Tapsoba will add a lot of bite and steel to Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglou’s attack. He would undeniably increase competition for places within Tottenham‘s match-day squad.
Tapsoba has got the quality and experience to help the North London club make a push for a top-four spot in the English top-flight next season. Hence, it makes sense for Postecoglou to go all out to snap the Leverkusen defender up later this year.
