In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo revealed that Barcelona have been offered a chance to land Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda. It has been claimed that the Catalan club have been given an opportunity to secure the services of the Spanish talent this summer.
Fresneda’s Impressive Rise In La Liga
Fresneda has done well to establish himself as a key member of Real Valladolid’s senior team in the previous campaign. The 18-year-old featured in 24 matches for the Spanish outfit last season but failed to score or create a goal for them across all fronts.
The Spanish prospect proved himself to be a solid defender at the back by averaging 2.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.0 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 80.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, it won’t be easy for the Catalan club to snap Fresneda up in this off-season.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Get Fresneda On Board This Summer?
Fresneda is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears his lines when needed and is a decent passer of the ball as well.
The Spanish sensation can even engineer some promising chances for others around him in the opponent’s half. He can even make a few driving runs with the ball on the right flank but is still quite raw and would need time to settle into life at the Nou Camp.
Still, there is no denying that Fresneda is already good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at Barcelona next season.
At 18, the Spaniard has got a bright future ahead of him and could help Xavi‘s side challenge for multiple trophies over the next decade.
All in all, Fresneda will be a brilliant signing for Barca in the long run, so Xavi should think about going all out to get him on board before the end of this summer transfer window.
