In a recent report, COPE mentioned that Barcelona have made contact to sign Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic this summer. It is understood that Barca boss Xavi have reached out to the Croat sensation to try and sign him in this off-season.
Brozovic’s Decent Form At San Siro Last Season
Brozovic anchored the midfield well for Inter in the previous campaign when he produced a series of impressive performances for them at the centre of the park. The 30-year-old made 40 appearances for the Italian club last season, netting three goals and earning six assists on all fronts.
The Croatia international was a decent performer at the heart of Inter’s midfield as he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Serie A. He was even excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates based on his pass completion rate of 89.6% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Milan club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Barca will have to make a good offer if they want to recruit Brozovic during this summer transfer window.
Is Brozovic A Decent Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Brozovic is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well from midfield. Brozovic is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
The Croat sensation can even contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals. Hence, he would be an excellent option for Barcelona boss Xavi to consider this summer. At 30, the Inter star might still have a few good years left in him.
We can expect Brozovic to bring more bite and steel to Barca‘s midfield. He would even increase competition for places within Xavi’s squad. With all things considered, the Catalan club would be wise to go all out to bring the Croatia international to the Nou Camp before the end of this transfer window.
