In a recent report, AS mentioned that Barcelona are in pole position to land Celta de Vigo talent Gabri Veiga. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are ahead of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to land the Spanish playmaker this summer.
Veiga’s Impressive Numbers In Spanish Football
Veiga is enjoying a decent campaign at the Estadio Municipal de Balaídos as he has put in a run of impressive performances for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has found the back of the net nine times and grabbed four assists in 38 appearances for Celta Vigo this season on all fronts.
The promising youngster has caught the eye at times in the opponent’s half by averaging 1.7 tackles, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 77.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Celta Vigo will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for Barcelona to sign him on the cheap in this off-season.
What Will Veiga Bring To Barcelona?
Veiga can engineer space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can strike the ball purely and with power from long range. The Spanish whizkid has also got the vision to create a few decent chances on the attacking end of the field. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Veiga to bring more goals and creativity to Barcelona‘s attack. At 21, he has got a promising future ahead of him and could prove himself to be a success story at the Nou Camp in the long run.
Veiga already knows La Liga well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Catalan club. He might even help Barca challenge for plenty of major trophies over the next decade. Hence, Xavi would be wise to focus on getting a deal done for the Spanish prospect when the transfer window reopens later this month.
