In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Aston Villa are among several clubs hoping to sign Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson. It has been claimed that the Villans are showing interest in recruiting the Welsh playmaker during this summer transfer window.
Johnson’s Decent Campaign In The Premier League
Johnson has enjoyed a decent campaign at Nottingham as he has managed to catch the eye with his performances for them in the final third. The Nottingham-born talent has found the back of the net on ten occasions and grabbed three assists in 44 matches for his current club this season in various competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a decent performer on the attacking end of the field based on his average of 1.4 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 62.8% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Midlands club will expire in the summer of 2026. Therefore, Aston Villa will have to pay a hefty fee if they want to sign the Welsh sensation in this off-season.
Is Johnson A Decent Fit For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Johnson is a good dribbler with the ball and can create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third. He can shoot the ball well from long range and can chip in by netting his fair share of goals up top. The Welsh talent mainly operates as an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger on either flank if told to do so.
We can expect Johnson to bring more firepower to Aston Villa‘s attack. He would be an upgrade over Philippe Coutinho who has failed to prove his worth at Villa Park so far.
At 22, the future is quite promising for Johnson. Plus, he has begun to find some consistency at the highest level. Hence, the Welsh starlet would be a great fit for the Villans‘ head coach Unai Emery in the long run.
