In a recent report, SportItalia claimed that Arsenal are set to rival AC Milan for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. It is believed that the Gunners are hoping to compete for the Spanish wide player’s services during this summer transfer window.
Williams’ Impressive Numbers In La Liga This Season
Williams has enjoyed a decent campaign at Bilbao as he has put in a run of impressive displays on the right side of their frontline. The 20-year-old deserves a lot of credit for scoring nine goals and grabbing six assists in 43 matches for the Spanish outfit this season across all fronts.
The Pamplona-born talent has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.7 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 78.4% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Williams is under contract at Bilbao until the summer of 2024. Hence, the Gunners could potentially sign him on a cut-price fee in the upcoming transfer window.
What Will Williams Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Side?
Williams can use his quickness to make some dangerous runs with the ball on the attacking end of the field. The Spanish prospect has got the eye to make a few decent plays for his teammates up top and can be a hard man to stop when he is running at full swing out on the flanks.
However, it remains to be seen whether Williams can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football. We can expect him to add more goals and pace to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attack.
At 20, Williams has his best years ahead of him and could go on to become a future star in European football. Therefore, the Gunners would be wise to get him on board when the transfer window reopens later this month.
Williams might even help the North London club challenge for some major trophies over the next few years. All in all, Arteta should focus on getting a deal done for him in this off-season.
