In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones stated that Arsenal have received the green light to land Chelsea ace Kai Havertz during this summer transfer window. Jones said,
“The green light is on. This is all ready to go for Kai Havertz.
“He’s excited about the challenge at Arsenal. He’s ready to fit into a new system and thinks his technical qualities will be better suited to Arteta than they were at Chelsea last season. I think he feels a bit misused.
“And I think he’s relishing a fresh environment to thrive in again because he hasn’t felt himself at Chelsea, and I think he wants to get back to being the old Kai Havertz.”
Havertz’s Up-And-Down Season At Stamford Bridge
Havertz experienced a campaign of mixed emotions at the West London club as he managed to put in a handful of impressive displays but struggled to be consistent with his productivity in the final third. The German sensation was involved in 47 matches for the Blues last season, scoring nine times and securing one assist in all competitions.
The Aachen-born talent managed to catch the eye at times in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.0 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball on the attacking end of the field as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.4% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Havertz Bring To Arsenal?
Havertz is a technically gifted footballer who has got the vision to create a few decent chances in the final third. He is a good dribbler with the ball and can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range.
However, the German talent has to find a way to improve his offensive numbers if he wants to taste success at the highest level. Havertz mainly functions as a centre-forward but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder or play on the right-wing if asked to do so.
Someone with Havertz’s skillset will bring more firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attacking department. He is good enough to fight for regular first-team football at the Emirates Stadium next season and could help the Gunners compete across all fronts over the next few years.
