In a recent report, The Daily Mirror claimed that Arsenal are ready to launch a move for Southampton midfield ace Romeo Lavia. It has been stated that the Gunners are hoping to sign the Belgian sensation during this summer transfer window.
Lavia’s Recent Form At St. Mary’s Stadium
The 19-year-old enjoyed a solid campaign at Southampton as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays at the centre of their midfield. However, he failed to help the Saints avoid getting relegated from the Premier League earlier this summer.
Lavia featured in 35 matches for his current employers last season, finding the back of the net once and securing one assist across multiple competitions. The Belgian midfield deserves some credit for averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.8 clearances and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has also been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after making 86.4% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Southampton will expire in 2027. Therefore, Arsenal will have to make a lucrative offer if they want to convince the Saints to part ways with their prized asset.
Will Lavia Be A Decent Signing For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Lavia loves a tackle and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. The Belgian sensation can even make a few energetic runs with the ball from midfield. He is primarily a defensive midfield but can also fill in as a centre-half if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Lavia to add more quality to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s midfield. He might even help the Gunners challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
Lavia has got some valuable experience in the Premier League under his belt and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Emirates Stadium. Hence, he would be an excellent signing for the North London club to pull off before the end of this summer transfer window.
