According to Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez, Manchester City is the “best team in the world” and deserving of winning the treble. Pep Guardiola’s side has a one-point lead over Arsenal with a game in hand in the Premier League.
Manchester City With An Impressive Run Of Form
The Sky Blues have already secured a spot in the Champions League semifinal after a 4-1 aggregate win over Bayern Munich. They will play against defending European champions Real Madrid later this month before facing Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3.
During a news conference on Monday, Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez praised Manchester City as “the best team in the world” and stated that they deserve to win the treble. When asked if it would be fair for City to achieve such a feat, Xavi replied affirmatively, saying, “Yes, it would be. For me, it’s the best team in the world. They have the best coach, and for us, the football they play is a mirror to look at. It would be a very fair treble.”
Can Pep Guardiola Lead Manchester City To A Treble This Year?
On paper, it certainly seems possible. Manchester City’s world-class squad is the envy of most teams in Europe. Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, and Erling Haaland provide an attacking threat that few teams can match. The midfield is anchored by the brilliant duo of Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan, while the defence is marshalled by the likes of Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and John Stones.
However, both the Premier League and the Champions League are highly unpredictable, with no shortage of challenges. Arsenal have been a force to reckon with in the domestic battle. At the same time, the Champions League is arguably the toughest competition to win, even more now with Real Madrid being in a rich run of form, and City has so far fallen short in their quest for European glory.
In the FA Cup finals against Manchester United, City will again be the favourites to lift the trophies. But a treble in the 2022/23 season will come down to a combination of factors. The team will need to stay injury-free, maintain their high levels of performance throughout the campaign, and Guardiola will need to make the right tactical decisions in crucial moments.
