In a recent report, Defensa Central mentioned that Real Madrid have been offered a chance to sign on-loan Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo. It is understood that Los Blancos could be given an opportunity to land the Portugal international, who is currently playing on loan at Bayern Munich, this summer.
Cancelo’s Impressive Loan Spell At The Allianz Arena
The 28-year-old is enjoying his time on loan in the Bundesliga as he has put in a handful of influential displays on the right side of Bayern Munich’s backline. Cancelo has made 19 appearances for the Bavarian outfit this season, netting one goal and grabbing six assists on all fronts.
The Portuguese sensation has given a good account of himself at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 85.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Cancelo’s current contract at his parent club Man City is set to expire in the summer of 2027. Still, Los Blancos could land him for a reduced fee as the player is currently facing an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium.
Is Cancelo A Good Option For Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti?
Cancelo is a tough-tackling full-back who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side on the defensive third of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and has also got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third. The Portuguese talent is a great dribbler with the ball as well and can pack a lot of power with his strikes from long range.
Someone with Cancelo’s skillset will no doubt be a welcome addition to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad this summer. He will undeniably enhance the quality of Los Blancos‘ first team and would serve as a perfect, long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
With all things considered, Cancelo will be an excellent option for Ancelotti to consider when the transfer window reopens later this year as he could help the Madrid giants challenge for even more major trophies in the future.
