In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Newcastle United are keen on recruiting Barcelona winger Raphinha. It has been claimed that the Magpies are hoping to land the Brazilian wide player this summer.
Raphinha’s Impressive Form For Barcelona This Season
Raphinha is having a good season at the Catalan club after putting in a run of productive displays as a key member of Xavi’s attack. The Brazilian wing wizard has found the back of the net on ten occasions and picked up 11 assists for Barca during this campaign across all fronts.
The 26-year-old has been a reliable performer for Barca in the final third based on his average of 2.2 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in La Liga football. He has also taken care of the ball when distributing the ball from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 79.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Raphinha’s current contract at Barcelona is set to expire in the summer of 2027. Thus, it would take a big fee for Newcastle to sign him later this year.
Is Raphinha The Right Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Raphinha can use his pace to cause a lot of problems for his marker and is a great dribbler with the ball at his feet. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and can also shoot the ball with power and precision from long range.
The Brazilian talent is primarily a right-sided winger but can also fill in on the left flank if his manager tells him to do so.
Someone with Raphinha’s skillset will no doubt enhance the quality of Eddie Howe’s first XI considerably at St. James’ Park. He is good enough to help the Magpies challenge for some major trophies over the next few years.
At 26, Raphinha is about to enter his prime and has got prior experience of playing in the Premier League during his spell at Leeds United. Thus, he is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Tyneside club and would be an excellent fit for Howe’s style of play.
