In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Chelsea are showing interest in Aston Villa left-back Alex Moreno. It is understood that the Blues are hoping to sign the Spanish defender but will face competition from Manchester City in pursuit of him this summer.
Moreno’s Decent Numbers In English Football
Moreno has put in a string of impressive performances on the left side of Unai Emery’s defence. The 29-year-old has been involved in 35 matches this season, picking up six assists in the process across multiple competitions.
The Spanish sensation has given a good account of himself on the left flank as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 1.5 clearances, 0.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 79.5% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Moreno is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2026. Thus, Chelsea will have to pay a big fee if they are serious about recruiting him during the summer transfer window.
Should Chelsea Move In For Moreno This Summer?
Moreno is a tough-tackling defender who can sense the danger quickly to clear the danger for his side when needed. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
The Spaniard can even strike the ball well from long range. Thus, he would be a good fit for Chelsea‘s brand of football at Stamford Bridge. At 29, the talented full-back is playing at the peak of his playing career at the moment.
Moreno is good enough to rival Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella for a regular starting spot at the West London club. Therefore, the Blues should focus on moving in for him when the transfer window reopens later this year.
