In a recent report, AS mentioned that Barcelona want to land Celta de Vigo playmaker Gabri Veiga. It has been claimed that the Catalan outfit are showing interest in acquiring the services of the talented Spanish midfielder.
Veiga’s Recent Rise In Spain
The 20-year-old is enjoying a great season at the La Liga club as he has managed to catch the eye for them at times in the final third. Veiga has registered nine goals and four assists in 33 matches for his current employers during this campaign in all competitions.
The promising midfielder deserves a pat on the back for averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 78.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Celta de Vigo is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for Barcelona to land him on the cheap in this off-season.
Barcelona Want To Land Veiga: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Veiga is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side as well. He can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range.
Veiga mainly operates in the number ten position but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if required. The Spanish sensation can also set up some promising chances for his teammates in the final third. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but is still quite inexperienced at the highest level.
Veiga is already good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp if Barcelona boss Xavi can devise a way to get him on board this summer.
Veiga has what it takes to challenge Pedri and Gavi for a regular starting spot at the Catalan club and could grow into a future superstar under the stewardship of Xavi.
At 20, the Spanish prospect has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. There is no denying that Veiga is a player to watch out for in the future as long as he continues to develop his all-around game with each year.
