In a recent report, The Times stated that Barcelona are ready to launch a move for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes. It is believed that the Catalan club are preparing to move in for the Brazilian midfield ace this summer.
Guimaraes’ Decent Run Of Form At St. James’ Park
Guimaraes has enjoyed a solid campaign at Newcastle after managing to help the Tyneside club secure a top-four finish in the Premier League. The Brazilian sensation has registered five goals and five assists in 40 matches for the Magpies this season across all fronts.
The 25-year-old has been a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 2.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 0.9 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution as he has completed 84.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Tyneside club is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Barcelona will have to pay a big fee if they want to stand a chance of recruiting Guimaraes this summer.
Is Guimaraes A Decent Choice For Barcelona?
Guimaraes is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can strike the ball with power from long range.
The Brazilian talent has got the vision to engineer a few clear-cut chances in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
We can expect Guimaraes to enhance the quality of Barcelona boss Xavi‘s midfield. Furthermore, he would serve as an ideal successor to Sergio Busquets at the Catalan club in the long run.
All in all, Guimaraes will be an excellent choice for Barca to consider when the transfer window commences next month.
