In a recent interview with Four Four Two, pundit Jay Bothroyd urged Arsenal to move in for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen. Bothroyd said,
“I would say we need a striker. I look at Arsenal now and I see Martinelli, Jesus and Saka. Saka is one of the best wingers in the world, and Jesus, as much as he’s good for Arsenal, his best work comes from the wide areas. He doesn’t convince me he can score 20 Premier League goals every year. Even at City he didn’t do it. We need an out-and-out goalscorer, for me I would like to see Osimhen come from Napoli, he’s strong, he’s powerful, good link-up play, he’s fast and he has an eye for goal,”
Osimhen’s Impressive Run Of Form In Italian Football
Osimhen is having an outstanding season in Serie A as he has produced a lot of impressive performances for Napoli in the final third. The 24-year-old has banged in 28 goals and picked up five assists in 37 matches for the Italian club during this campaign across all competitions.
The Nigeria international has led the line well for the Naples outfit by averaging 4.2 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution after making only 70.6% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Is Osimhen A Good Choice For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Osimhen is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He is a prolific finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can create some decent plays for his teammates up top.
The Nigerian sensation is a powerful dribbler with the ball as well but there are some question marks over whether Osimhen would be able to make a smooth transition to life in England.
We can expect Osimhen to bring more firepower to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s attack. He might even help the Gunners challenge for the Premier League title once again next season.
All in all, Osimhen would be a great choice for the North London club to consider during the summer transfer window as long as Arteta is confident about getting the best out of him in the coming years.
