Why Has Manchester United Denied Garnacho’s Participation?
The tournament is scheduled to begin in Argentina on the same day that the Red Devils are set to play against Bournemouth. They will host Chelsea and Fulham before travelling to Wembley in early June.
Garnacho was initially named in Argentina’s preliminary squad for the tournament, but United officials denied his participation due to a scheduling conflict. Even a discussion with the Under-20s head coach, Javier Mascherano, who is currently touring Europe to persuade clubs to release their players, could not sway United’s decision.
An Important Stepping Stone For Alejandro Garnacho?
In his breakout season, the 18-year-old footballer has been in fine form for the Red Devils, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 31 appearances until an ankle injury sidelined him. It is anticipated that Garnacho will recover in time to play in United’s remaining nine games, which includes the highly anticipated FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Nevertheless, the FIFA U20 World Cup is set to commence on May 20, with the team assembling before that date, which implies that Garnacho would be absent from the team for a minimum of four matches.
As per reports, it is alleged that Garnacho will personally implore Erik Ten Hag to permit him to join the national team. The United starlet, who switched allegiance from Spain to play for his mother’s country, was named in the senior squad for fixtures against Panama and Curacao. However, his ankle injury prevented him from participating. Garnacho is eager to establish himself in the Argentina team and believes that the Under-20 World Cup, hosted in the country, presents an unmissable opportunity for him, an important stepping stone in his career.
