In a recent interview with Football Insider, Gabby Agbonlahor urged Tottenham Hotspur to land Leicester City star James Maddison. Agbonlahor said,
“I just feel like Spurs shouldn’t make the same mistake they did with Jack Grealish.
“They tried to save money and get his price down, and they missed out. Maddison is exactly what they need.
“They could change the way they play entirely and go to a 4-3-3. It’d be perfect.
“But they’ll have competition. Newcastle will be there with £55million if Tottenham offer £50million.”
Maddison’s Impressive Form At The King Power Stadium
Maddison is having a decent campaign at Leicester despite struggling to help them be consistent in Premier League football. The English sensation has scored nine times and picked up six assists in 25 appearances for the Foxes this season across multiple competitions.
The former Coventry City sensation has been a reliable performer in the opposition half as he is averaging 2.7 shots, 2.3 key passes and 0.9 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the final third after making 80.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Maddison A Dream Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Maddison can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and is a specialist from dead-ball situations. He has got the vision to create some clear-cut chances for others around him in the opposition half and remains a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet.
Maddison is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if needed.
We can expect the English talent to add plenty of goals and creativity to Tottenham‘s attack. He could even help Spurs challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League next season.
Therefore, the North London club should think about signing him in the summer when he will have just one year remaining in his Leicester contract. He has got a wealth of experience in Premier League football and could help Tottenham compete for some major silverware over the next few years which makes him a dream option for Spurs to consider during this summer transfer window.
