In a recent interview with Arena Napoli, transfer insider Ciro Venerato stated that Leeds United are among the clubs hoping to sign Boca Juniors forward Mateo Retegui who is currently playing on loan at Tigre. Venerato said,
“Yes, I can confirm that Eintracht Frankfurt is on Retegui’s trail also because Kolo Muani will leave.
“Leeds and the two Milanese are also on the player. Inter has come forward for the player, speaking to both the player and the striker.
“There is only one small problem: the Nerazzurri management, at the moment, does not yet have the money to buy the striker. after you”.
Retegui’s Impressive Loan Spell At Tigre
Retegui has enjoyed a decent run of form in Argentine football as he has put in a series of impressive displays as the spearhead of Tigre’s attack. He has scored seven goals in ten appearances for the Argentine club this season across all competitions.
The Italian sensation has led the line well at times by averaging 3.9 shots and 0.6 key passes per 90 minutes in Liga Profesional. However, he needs to find a way to improve his link-up play on the attacking end of the pitch, based on his pass completion rate of 70.1% in the Argentine first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Retegui The Right Fit For Leeds United?
Retegui excels at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can also engineer some inviting chances for others around him on the attacking end of the pitch. The Argentine striker has proven himself to be a capable goal-getter in Argentine football. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Whites manage to snap him up in the summer.
Retegui will undeniably add more firepower to Javi Gracia’s attack at Elland Road. He could even help the Yorkshire club challenge for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season.
At 23, Retegui will only get better over the next few years which makes him a good fit for Leeds United as he could grow into a future star in England as long as Gracia is willing to be patient with his progress.
