According to a report from Football.London, it was mentioned that Chelsea could swap Christian Pulisic for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic. It is understood that with Pulisic’s contract set to expire in West London next summer, Chelsea are faced with a decision to either sell the forward or risk losing him for free.
Pulisic’s Frustrating Campaign With Chelsea So Far This Season
Pulisic’s frustrations have been growing this season at West London’s Stamford Bridge, where he has struggled to maintain consistency in his performances for Chelsea. Despite featuring in 26 matches across all competitions, the United States international has only made nine starts, where he has managed to score one goal and provide two assists.
He has primarily appeared as a substitute, which may explain his relatively low averages of 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes, and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League matches. However, he has been efficient in passing, having completed 83.8% of his attempted passes in league football, according to whoscored.
Should Chelsea Owner Todd Boehly Replace Pulisic?
Pulisic possesses good dribbling skills and can make swift runs behind the opposition’s penalty box. Additionally, he has the ability to create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates in the final third and can shoot with significant power from a distance. Despite these strengths, the United States star must improve his offensive productivity on a more regular basis to achieve greater success at the highest level.
However, Pulisic has been far too injury prone during his Chelsea career and is currently not a regular starter at Stamford Bridge even if when he is fit and available for selection. Dusan Vlahovic could be a decent replacement as they need reinforcements in the striking position, which could allow Kai Havertz to find his place in the Blues‘ attacking department.
His current contract at the West London club is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, Todd Boehly would be wise to cash in on him for a cut-price fee this year or even swap him for the Juventus striker rather than lose him as a free agent at the end of next season.
