In a recent report, Sport revealed that Barcelona are willing to give up Sergino Dest for Atletico Madrid playmaker Yannick Carrasco. It is understood that the Catalan club are eyeing a move for the Belgian international during this summer transfer window.
Carrasco’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football
Carrasco has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Wanda Metropolitano as he has produced a series of impressive performances for Atletico in the final third. The 29-year-old has been involved in 35 matches for the Madrid giants this season, scoring six goals and picking up three assists in various competitions.
The Belgian sensation has been a reliable performer in the opponent’s half and has done well to average 1.8 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession out on the wide areas based on his pass success rate of 83% in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Atletico Madrid is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Hence, it is only logical for Barca to arrange a move for him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Carrasco Up This Summer?
Carrasco is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to create some decent plays for others around him. He can also chip in by scoring some important goals for his team up top. The Belgian talent is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play on the right wing if his manager asks him to do so.
Someone with Carrasco’s skillset and experience would be a useful addition to Barcelona boss Xavi’s squad ahead of the new campaign. He could help the Catalan club challenge for some major honours over the next few years.
At 29, Carrasco is currently playing in his prime and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Nou Camp if Barcelona can devise a way to land him this summer. The Belgian talent has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and would no doubt strengthen Xavi’s attacking options in the short term. All in all, Barca should focus on snapping Carrasco up when the transfer window commences later this year.
