In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that Manchester United are facing fierce competition for Borussia Monchengladbach ace Marcus Thuram. It has been claimed that the Red Devils will have to rival Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the French forward.
Thuram’s Impressive Record In German Football This Season
The 25-year-old is experiencing an impressive season at the German club as he has produced a string of influential displays as the spearhead of their attack. Thuram has participated in 25 matches for Borussia Monchengladbach during this campaign, finding the back of the net 14 times and registering four assists across multiple competitions.
The French centre-forward has led the line well on his own based on his average of 3.1 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Bundesliga football. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play on the attacking end of the field after he completed just 74.4% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Thuram’s current deal at Borussia Park is to end in the summer. Hence, Man United could land him on a free transfer at the end of this season.
Is Thuram A Good Option For Manchester United Boss Erik ten Hag?
Thuram can create space for himself to get some shots in on-target and can create some meaningful openings for his teammates as well in the final third. He can also make some clever runs with and without the ball up top. Thuram is primarily a centre-forward but doesn’t mind playing as a winger on either flank if needed.
The French sensation has begun to prove his worth as a prolific goal-scorer in German football. However, only time will tell whether he can replicate his good form in the Premier League where he will have to cope with the physicality and high intensity of English football.
We can expect Thuram to add plenty of firepower to Erik ten Hag’s attack at Man United. He would serve as an upgrade over Wout Weghorst who has struggled to be prolific at Old Trafford this season.
Thuram has what it takes to help the Red Devils challenge for some top honours in the coming seasons. ten Hag could be the perfect man to unlock the best out of the gifted forward at the Mancunian club in the future. At 25, Thuram’s prime years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Man United to pursue this summer.
