In a recent report, Blick stated that Manchester United are showing interest in Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are eager to bring the Swiss custodian to Old Trafford during the summer transfer period.
Kobel’s Good Form At Signal Iduna Park This Season
Kobel is having a decent campaign at the German club as he has been responsible for putting in a run of impressive performances for them in goal. The 25-year-old has been involved in 25 matches for his current club this season, conceding 22 goals and securing 12 clean sheets in various competitions.
The Zurich-born talent deserves some credit for averaging 0.6 clearances and 5.0 long balls per game in Bundesliga. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the back after making 78.8% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Bundesliga club is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, Man United will have to pay a big fee if they want to secure Kobel’s services later this year.
Is Kobel A Good Option For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
Kobel can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks for his team and has got good reflexes that allow him to make a few solid saves at the back. Standing at 1.94m, he is a towering presence inside his own penalty box and doesn’t hesitate to come out and collect loose balls when needed.
The Swiss goalkeeper is a decent passer of the ball as well which makes him a good fit for Erik Ten Hag’s style of play at Man United.
Kobel is good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to David de Gea at the Mancunian club next season. He has even got the potential to earn a regular starting spot at Old Trafford.
At 25, Kobel has still got plenty of room for improvement in his game. However, there are some question marks over whether he can replicate his good form in the Premier League. Either way, there is no denying that the Swiss custodian would be an excellent choice for the Red Devils to pursue during the summer transfer period.
