In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Liverpool are set to rival Newcastle United for Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount. It has been claimed that the Reds are eyeing a move to sign the England international from the Blues this summer.
Mount’s Up And Down Season In The Premier League So Far
Mount is having a tough campaign at Chelsea as he has sometimes struggled to be consistent for them in the final third. The English sensation deserves some credit for scoring three goals and picking up six assists in 32 matches for the Blues this season across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has done well to average 1.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 80.3% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club is set to run out at the end of next season. Thus, the Reds could potentially sign Mount on the cheap this summer.
Is Mount A Decent Option For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Mount doesn’t shy away from making a tackle and usually works hard for his team. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a central midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if his manager asks him to do so.
The English talent can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to engineer some decent chances for his teammates in the final third. He can also make a few clever runs toward the opponent’s penalty box.
However, Mount is not playing with confidence at the moment and could benefit from a change of scenery in search of more success at the highest level. He will be a good fit for Jurgen Klopp‘s brand of football at Liverpool.
Plus, Mount could help the Reds challenge for multiple trophies over the next few years. He is currently on an expiring contract at Chelsea and would be a great option for the Merseyside club to consider when the transfer window reopens later this year.
At 24, Mount’s best years are ahead of him which makes him an attractive choice for Liverpool this summer. Klopp will be the perfect man to unlock the best out of the player and make him a fan-favourite at Anfield in the coming seasons.
