In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Liverpool could move in for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes. It has been claimed that the Reds are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Portugal international.
Nunes’ Impressive Debut Season In The Premier League
Nunes is having a solid campaign at the Molineux Stadium as he has managed to put in a string of impressive displays at the heart of Wolves’ midfield. The 24-year-old has made 29 appearances for the West Midlands club this season, picking up one assist in the process across all competitions.
The Portuguese sensation has been a consistent performer at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 81.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Nunes is under contract at Wolves until the summer of 2027. Hence, the Reds would have to make a sizable offer if they want to recruit the talented midfielder at the end of this season.
What Will Nunes Bring To Liverpool?
Nunes is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
The Portugal international has got the vision to create some decent plays for his teammates up top and can make a few driving runs with the ball from midfield. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
We can expect Nunes to bring plenty of quality to Liverpool‘s midfield and increase competition for places within Jurgen Klopp‘s squad. Thus, the Reds should focus on launching a big move to land him in the off-season.
