In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned that Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka. Jacobs said,
“At the opposite extreme, you’ve got a player, for example, like Evan Ndicka, who’s a free transfer.
“And that’s exactly the kind of player that Liverpool love because they know there’s value. They appreciate the talent there, so that’s one to watch as well.”
Ndicka’s Impressive Form At The Deutsche Bank Park
The 23-year-old is enjoying a solid campaign at Frankfurt as he has managed to put in a run of impressive performances for them on the defensive third of the pitch. Ndicka has featured in 32 matches for the German club this season, netting one goal and grabbing one assist across all fronts.
The Paris-born talent has given a good account of himself when defending inside his half by averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 5.1 clearances per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back after making 86.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club is set to expire at the end of this season. Thus, it makes a lot of sense for the Reds to offer Ndicka a contract when he becomes a free agent this summer.
Is Ndicka A Decent Option For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Ndicka can be a rock at the back when he is playing well on the pitch. He is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the field. The French sensation doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when needed and can play his way out from the back. However, it remains to be seen whether he is good enough to cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
Ndicka is primarily a centre-back but can also function as a left-back if asked to do so. He is good enough to enhance the overall depth of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp‘s match-day squad.
The French sensation would serve as an upgrade over Joe Gomez who has struggled to perform at a high level for the Merseyside club this season. All in all, Ndicka would be a great option for Klopp to pursue in the summer as he is available on a free transfer and has got the potential to help the Reds compete for even more major honours in the coming seasons.
