In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned that Liverpool are among the clubs hoping to land Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Max Kilman. Jacobs said,
“With Kilman, Liverpool have looked at him, Spurs have looked at him. I don’t think Wolves want to lose Kilman, but it might be the right time for him to make a move.
“A series of Premier League clubs on the centre-back’s trail are very impressed by him.”
Kilman’s Impressive Season In English Football
Kilman is having a decent campaign at the Molineux Stadium as he has produced a series of impressive performances at the heart of Wolves’ backline. The 25-year-old has made 31 appearances for the West Midlands club this season, picking up four yellow cards in the process on all fronts.
The London-born talent has been a rock at the back based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back, based on his pass completion rate of 82.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Kilman is under contract at Wolves until the summer of 2026. Hence, the Reds would have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting him at the end of this season.
Is Kilman A Good Choice For Liverpool?
Kilman can use his strong 1.94m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air and can be a potent aerial threat from indirect set-pieces. He is a good tackler of the ball as well and can sense the danger quickly to earn possession back for his team when needed.
The English sensation doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. However, he is yet to win a major trophy at the highest level and could struggle to meet the high expectations surrounding a move to a top club like Liverpool in the future.
Still, Kilman has already proven his worth as a reliable defender in Premier League football and could serve as a useful presence in Jurgen Klopp‘s match-day squad. He could also serve as an upgrade over Joe Gomez who has been quite injury-prone and inconsistent during his time at Anfield.
At 25, Kilman has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great choice for the Merseyside club to consider in the summer.
