According to a recent report from Football.London, it was mentioned that Chelsea have had a major setback in their pursuit of Neymar after the Paris Saint-Germain superstar went off with an ankle injury last week. Reports from various sources state that he will be missing out on the rest of the season as he’ll undergo a ligament repair following recurring ankle problems which comes as a blow to Todd Boehly and the Blues’ board who had reportedly identified him as a transfer target this summer.
Neymar’s Impressive Campaign At PSG So Far This Season
The Brazilian sensation has had a brilliant campaign at Parc des Princes after putting in a series of remarkable performances in the final third. He has banged in eighteen goals and created thirteen assists for the Parisians over 29 appearances across all competitions.
The Sao-Paulo-born talent has been more than reliable in the attacking third based on his average of 1.9 shots, 2.5 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has also been excellent with his ball distribution after completing 82.7% of his attempted passes in the French top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Neymar’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain lasts until the summer of 2025. Hence. it would be difficult to convince the French giants into selling him until and unless an enticing offer is made in the summer.
Should Chelsea Owner Todd Boehly Still Pursue His Signature?
Neymar Jr. is undoubtedly one of the most talented footballers of this generation. The Brazilian superstar’s playstyle is a combination of technical brilliance, speed, and exceptional dribbling skills that make him a joy to watch on the pitch. His creativity and flair make him a potent attacking threat, and his ability to score goals and create chances for his teammates has earned him a reputation as one of the best players in the world.
The 31-year-old is also an excellent finisher and has a keen eye for goals. He is equally comfortable playing as a striker or on the wings, and his ability to create chances for himself and his teammates makes him a vital asset to any team he plays for.
His arrival to Stamford Bridge would undoubtedly bring more competition to the match-day squad and certainly add more firepower to the Blues‘ attack, however, Chelsea would have to pay a massive transfer fee in order to bring him aboard and the player remains highly susceptible to injuries with a long history of being sidelined during crucial fixtures. Todd Boehly would be wise to not take such a huge gamble, especially after massive spending in the last two transfer windows.
