According to a report from Football.London, it was mentioned that Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling could be a potential target for Arsenal this summer. It is understood that the English forward has failed to reach expectations and struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge this season following injuries and a mix of position changes in the attacking third.
Sterling’s Injury-Plagued Campaign With Chelsea So Far This Season
Sterling has struggled to be productive in the attacking end this campaign following injury woes and the difficulty of adapting to different positions whenever he featured for the Blues. However, despite that, the 28-year-old has scored six goals and created three assists over 25 appearances for Chelsea this season across all competitions.
The former Manchester City player has tried to be a consistent performer for the West London club based on his average of 1.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League. Sterling has also been tidy with his ball distribution in the opponent’s half after he completed 78.2% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Cash In?
Sterling can use his pace and agility to make some decent runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can cut inside and make some impressive turns due to his ball control at the attacking end of the field. He can make a few decisive passes into the penalty box to set up his teammates with easy goals and can often be a good finisher in front of the opposition goal.
Sterling has definitely added more goals to the Blues’ attack and balance to Chelsea‘s frontline. He remains versatile enough to virtually play anywhere across the frontline which makes him a brilliant addition to a squad but the same versatility has administered issues for the forward at Stamford Bridge as he has not established himself in the starting XI as a key member as of yet.
At 28, Sterling is currently playing in his prime and could pick up on his form to be more productive after he recovers from his injury.
Sterling’s future at Chelsea is uncertain at the moment after Graham Potter brought in more attacking reinforcements to bolster the frontline. Therefore, a move away would be the most viable option for him this summer since he would be given fewer minutes on the pitch with increased competition in the attacking positions. Potter would be wise to sell him this summer if he receives an enticing offer from the Gunners.
