In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo in 2024. It has been revealed that the Catalan club are planning to sign the Spain international on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Olmo’s Decent Numbers In German Football This Season
The 24-year-old is having a productive campaign at the Red Bull Arena as he has put in a run of impressive displays for Leipzig in the final third. Olmo has registered four goals and six assists in 20 appearances for the German club this season on all fronts.
The Spanish sensation has been a reliable performer in the opponent’s half and deserves credit for averaging 2.0 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 76.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at RB Leipzig is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, Barca could potentially sign him on a free transfer next year.
Is Olmo A Good Choice For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Olmo can strike the ball with a lot of venom from long-range but needs to be more accurate with his shot attempts. He has also got the vision to create some inviting chances for others around him on the attacking end of the pitch.
The Spain international is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can be a hard man to dispossess when he is running in full swing in the opponent’s half. He mainly operates in the number ten position but can also function as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
Olmo will undeniably add more goals and creativity to Barcelona boss Xavi’s attack. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the Nou Camp and could help the Catalan club challenge for some major trophies over the next few years.
At 24, Olmo has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great choice for Barca to consider at the end of next season. The Leipzig star came through the youth ranks of Barcelona and won’t take any time to settle into life back in his homeland if Xavi can devise a way to bring him on board on a free transfer in 2024.
