According to a report from Evening Standard, it was mentioned that Arsenal have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo after Brighton & Hove Albion offered their midfield ace a new long-term contract to tie him down at the Amex Stadium. It is understood the 21-year-old has committed his future to the Seagulls despite publicly requesting a move to Arsenal in the last transfer window.
Caicedo’s Impressive Numbers For Brighton So Far This Season
Caicedo has impressed with his recent performances in the central areas of the field as he has put in some influential displays defensively. The Ecuadorian midfielder has found the back of the net on one occasion and picked up an assist over twenty-six appearances for the Seagulls so far this season.
The Santo Domingo-born sensation has been reliable in the centre of the park as he has averaged 2.8 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.5 long balls and 1.1 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 88.9% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His previous contract at the American Express Community Stadium was about to expire in the summer of 2025, however, the new contract extends his stay at the club until June 2027.
Can Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Find A Better Alternative This Summer?
Caicedo is one of the most exciting young prospects in South America. His playstyle is characterized by his impressive energy levels and his ability to cover a lot of ground on the pitch. He is known for his excellent work rate, and his willingness to put in a tireless shift for his team in the central areas. Caicedo is equally comfortable playing in a defensive or an attacking role, and is capable of making a significant impact in both positions.
The Ecuadorian midfielder is always looking to make interceptions and break up opposition attacks. He has already demonstrated his ability to contribute heavily to shielding the backline and isn’t afraid of putting his foot into a tackle.
It is not surprising that the Gunners have lost the chance to secure a talented young prospect since Caicedo could have offered a lot of bite and steel to Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department over the coming years. However, Arteta could definitely find a better alternative in the summer if the North London club really want to bolster their defensive areas in the midfield.
