In a recent report, The Northern Echo mentioned that Newcastle United are eyeing a summer move for Leicester City ace James Maddison. It has been claimed that the Magpies are hoping to acquire the services of the English playmaker when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
Maddison’s Impressive Numbers In English Football This Season
Maddison is having a decent campaign at the King Power Stadium after putting in a series of influential displays for the Foxes in the final third. The 26-year-old has registered eight goals and four assists in 17 appearances for Leicester City this season in all competitions.
The England international has been a reliable performer for the Foxes in the final third as he is averaging 2.8 shots, 2.2 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 82.8% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East Midlands club is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, the Magpies could potentially land him on a cut-price fee this summer.
Is Maddison A Good Choice For Newcastle United?
Maddison can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and has got the knack for creating some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He can even make a few driving runs with the ball toward the opposition penalty box and usually works his socks off at both ends of the pitch.
The England international can get stuck in with some solid tackles as well and is a tidy passer of the ball. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if told to do so.
We can expect Maddison to bring more goals and creativity to Eddie Howe‘s attack at Newcastle. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting place at St. James’ Park in the coming seasons.
At 26, Maddison has his best years ahead of him which makes him an excellent choice for the Magpies to pursue at the end of this campaign. Therefore, the Tyneside outfit should go all out to land the Leicester City playmaker on the cheap during the summer transfer period as he is good enough to help them compete for some top honours over the next few years.
