In a recent report, AS stated that Manchester United are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils are keeping a keen eye on the Belgian international’s situation at the Madrid club.
Carrasco’s Up And Down Season In Spanish Football
Carrasco is having an underwhelming season at the Wanda Metropolitano after struggling to be consistent with his offensive numbers for Diego Simeone’s side so far. The Belgian sensation has scored four goals and picked up a couple of assists in 27 appearances for the Madrid outfit during this campaign across various competitions.
The 29-year-old has proven his worth at times by averaging 1.6 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 83.6% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Carrasco’s current deal at Atletico Madrid is set to run out in 2024. Thus, Man United could potentially land him on a cut-price fee at the end of this campaign.
Should Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Get Carrasco On Board?
Carrasco is a decent dribbler with the ball and can orchestrate a few inviting chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field. He can strike the ball well from long range but needs to find a way to improve his numbers in front of the opposition goal.
The 62-time Belgium international is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a right-winger if his manager tells him to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he has what it takes to make a smooth transition to life in England.
At 29, Carrasco might still have a few good years left in him and would be a good choice for Man United to consider in the summer as long as Erik ten Hag is planning to use him as a squad player at Old Trafford.
At the moment, Carrasco is not good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Mancunian club. However, he has got the skillset and experience to help Man United compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.
Plus, ten Hag would be the perfect man to unlock the best out of the player at Manchester over the next few years. With all things considered, Man United would be wise to get Carrasco on board during this summer transfer period.
