In a recent report, The Times mentioned that Manchester City are eyeing a summer move for West Ham United star Declan Rice. It has been claimed that the Mancunian club are showing interest in recruiting the England international at the end of this campaign.
Rice’s Impressive Numbers For West Ham This Season
Rice has been a consistent performer at the East London club but has struggled to help his team be consistent in the Premier League during this campaign. The English sensation has found the back of the net once and secured three assists in 27 matches for the Hammers this season on all fronts.
The London-born talent has been a reliable performer for West Ham in the middle of the park based on his average of 2.3 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 89.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Rice is under contract at the London Stadium until the summer of 2024. Hence, Man City have got a good chance of recruiting him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Declan Rice A Decent Choice For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola?
Rice is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can even strike the ball with power from long range.
The London-born midfield ace has got the vision to create some decent plays for others around him in the opponent’s half and usually works his socks off for his team on the field. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a central defender if his manager asks him to do so.
We can expect Rice to inject more bite and steel into Man City boss Pep Guardiola‘s midfield and could go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 24, Rice will only get better as he matures as a footballer over the next few years. Thus, he will be an excellent choice for the Mancunian giants if they can devise a way to get him on board during the summer transfer window.
