Manchester City faced off against Red Bull Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena earlier tonight as they hoped to earn a positive result in the UEFA Champions League. The Mancunian giants made a bright start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 27th-minute courtesy of Riyad Mahrez’s goal. Pep Guardiola’s men controlled the game well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Josko Gvardiol equalised for the German club in the 70th minute which set up an exciting finale to the game. Man City failed to net the winning goal in the latter stages of the contest and were held to a 1-1 draw away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester City player fared during the match against RB Leipzig.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made a few important saves at the back but will be disappointed after conceding a goal in the 70th minute.
RM: Kyle Walker – 7/10
He did his fair share of defending and made two good runs with the ball.
CB: Manuel Akanji – 6.5/10
Akanji made some crucial defensive contributions but won’t be happy after failing to keep a clean sheet.
CB: Ruben Dias – 6.5/10
The Portugal international cleared the danger when needed and passed the ball really well from the back.
LM: Jack Grealish – 7/10
Grealish worked hard at both ends of the field but didn’t do enough to register a goal.
CB: Nathan Ake – 6.5/10
He didn’t do much wrong at the back and was good on the ball as well.
CM: Rodri – 6/10
The Spaniard was not shy of having a strike at goal but produced an underwhelming display at the centre of the park.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7/10
The Portuguese sensation came back to defend when required and managed to cause a lot of problems for the Leipzig defenders because of his running and link-up play.
CAM: Ilkay Gundogan – 7/10
He created a couple of inviting chances in the final third and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
RAM: Riyad Mahrez – 8.5/10
Mahrez opened the goal-scoring in the 27th minute and was a constant menace in the final third. He deserves to be named the man of the match.
ST: Erling Haaland – 6.5/10
The Norway international had a couple of bright moments in the game but failed to find the back of the net tonight.
