In a recent report, Liverpool Echo mentioned that Liverpool are in talks to sign Torino defender Perr Schuurs. It has been mentioned that the Reds are eyeing a move to land the Dutch centre-back.
Schuurs’ Decent Form In Italian Football This Season
Schuurs has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Italian club as he has managed to put in a run of impressive displays at the heart of their backline. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net once and grabbed two assists in 22 matches for his current employers this season across all competitions.
The Dutch sensation has been a rock at the back based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per game in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 86% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Italian club is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Liverpool to land him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Is Schuurs A Good Choice For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Schuurs is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.91m, the Dutch talent can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Hence, he will be a decent choice for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s style of play at the Merseyside club.
However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in England if the Reds manage to get him on board in the summer. At 23, the Dutch talent will only get better over the next few years as long as he continues to work on improving himself on the field.
We can expect Schuurs to add more bite and steel to Klopp’s defence and increase competition for places within his match-day squad at Anfield. He could even help the Reds compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons. All in all, the Torino star would be an excellent choice for Liverpool to pursue at the end of this season as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Klopp demands from his defenders.
