It is no surprise that the demand for tickets to the biggest football games is extremely high. In this article, we look at the differences in the ticket prices to the top 5 leagues in European football, including the English Premier League, Spanish, La Liga and Italian Serie A.
Whilst there are many factors that contribute to the ticket prices of a particular match, we use data from football ticket experts Seat Compare to give the average prices of games in the biggest leagues. Whilst many reports will use data on official ticket prices, we will analyse prices from the secondary ticket market, this will give a clearer picture to understand the differences in the demand.
1. Spanish La Liga
In recent years, Spain has attracted the best players in the world including both when Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi played at Real Madrid and FC Barcelona respectively. Whilst they are still arguably the biggest two teams in the world, ticket prices for their games have decreased in the past 2 seasons. FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid is the biggest demanded ticket in La Liga with prices starting at £350/€400 for a single seat in the stadium.

2. French Ligue 1
Whilst the French Ligue 1 has arguably the current best players Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, there is only one team that creates the demand for tickets, Paris Saint-Germain. The most-watched games of the season are when PSG face Olympique de Marseille, tickets for these games sell for around £250/€300 depending on the importance of the match.

3. English Premier League ticket prices
Based on price data taken from all 20 teams, the average price of a ticket to watch a Premier League is £75 / €85. This figure is almost double the price of the official listed ticket price making it the most expensive football league in world football. The biggest games in the Premier League are for any matchup between Liverpool vs Manchester United taking place at Anfield or Old Trafford. Tickets for this game in particular average around £350/€400.

4. German Bundesiliga
The German teams are known for offering good value for tickets to their matches with some tickets starting as low as 10/12 euro a ticket. The biggest games of the season are for Der Klassiker or German Clasico when Borussia Dortmund play Bayern Munich, the biggest teams in German football. Tickets for these games are in high demand and sell for an average of €200, much higher than a standard Bundesliga match.

5. Italian Serie A
The average price of tickets to watch a Serie A game is much lower than European counterparts because the demand is much lower, aside from a handful of games which sell for a premium.

The average price of the tickets for the leagues are based on the previous season and for a single seat in the stadium. Many teams around Europe offer discounted tickets and have availability at the official ticket office for many games.
