Rangers are enjoying a boisterous run under Michael Beale and their midweek win against Hearts showed the progress they made in recent weeks. They hosted Ross County this afternoon and the gaffer was looking for another stroll in the park in front of the Ibrox crowd. Despite a headstrong display, the Staggies lost 2-1 when Borna Barisic’s free-kick took a wicked deflection before finding the target.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their 2-1 win against Ross County.
Jon McLaughlin: 6
Was handed a surprise start over in form Allan McGregor. But the Scotsman failed to grab his opportunity as he should have done better with his outing during Jordan White’s equalizer midway through the second half.
James Tavernier: 7.5
Looked lively with his overlapping runs, crosses, link-up play and cut insides. Created a few chances from the right-hand flank, and also tried his luck from a distance.
Connor Goldson: 7.5
Won the majority of duels against Eamonn Brophy and White. Did his best to play it out from the back in order to script attacking transitions from deep down the pitch.
Ben Davies: 7
Was booked for a mistimed tackle early into the game. But he managed the game well ever since with timely blocks, no-nonsense clearances, recoveries and interceptions.
Borna Barisic: 8
Overcame an injury scare late in the first half and delivered another inspiring performance from the left-hand flank. Created the most chances in the match and his free-kick ended up in the back of the net to secure all three points.
John Lundstram: NA
Was forced to leave the pitch with an early injury. Was replaced by Malik Tillman who added an attacking edge in the centre of the pitch.
Ryan Jack: 7.5
Handed the pressure well as a ‘number 6′ as he held the ball well before passing it across the pitch. Did his best to dominate the midfield game by breaking down opponents’ moves.
Fashion Sakala: 6
Not his best game from the flank as he kept on getting dispossessed far too frequently. Lost the duels, failed with his dribbling attempts and was shown a yellow card for a rusty tackle. Was replaced by Glen Kamara to add more depth in the central midfield spot.
Todd Cantwell: 8.5
Did extremely well to keep the ball before setting it up for Tillman to break the deadlock. Made a great impact with his creative spark in and around the attacking third. Received plaudits from the fans while making way for the debutant Nicolas Raskin in the closing minutes of the contest.
Ryan Kent: 7.5
Another steady and routine performance from the Englishman. Was denied by the woodwork minutes before Barisic’s winner. Kept the Staggies’ defence on its toes with his dribbles and smart passing moves. Was replaced by Scott Wright late in the game.
Alfredo Morelos: 7
Had an array of attempts while spearheading the attack. Some of them went wide, a few were blocked and the rest were saved by Ross Laidlaw in the County goal. Was taken off for Antonio Colak with seven minutes remaining in the regulation time.
