In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are eager to recruit Valencia full-back Jose Gaya. It has been stated that the Catalan club are keeping a keen eye on the Spanish talent as they look to get him on board in the summer.
Gaya’s Decent Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Gaya is having an impressive campaign at Valencia after putting in a few productive performances on the left side of their backline. The 27-year-old has been involved in 20 matches for the Spanish outfit this season, registering one goal and three assists in multiple competitions.
The Spain international has given a good account of himself on the left flank by averaging 2.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.8 shots, 2.2 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back as he has completed 82.8% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mestalla Stadium is set to run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for Barca to get a deal over the line for him at the end of this campaign.
What Will Gaya Add To Barcelona Boss Xavi’s Team?
Gaya is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can even create some meaningful chances for his teammates from the left flank. However, standing at 1.72m, he can be a liability in the air when defending inside his penalty box.
The Spaniard can shoot the ball purely from long range and is a good dribbler as well. He knows the La Liga well by now and has what it takes to become a success story at the Nou Camp if Xavi opts to snap him up in the summer.
We can expect Gaya to enhance the quality of Barcelona‘s first XI. He could even serve as an ideal long-term successor to Jordi Alba at the Nou Camp.
Gaya will no doubt add more depth to Xavi‘s match-day squad and could help Barca challenge for some major honours in the coming seasons. At 27, he is about to enter his prime and could make an instant impact at the Nou Camp if Xavi can devise a way to bring him on board this year.
