In a recent report, Sport stated that Aston Villa are facing stiff competition for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram. It has been claimed that the Villans will have to rival Barcelona, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to land the French striker in the summer.
Thuram’s Impressive Run Of Form In Bundesliga This Season
Thuram is having a decent campaign in Germany after producing a series of impressive performances as the focal point of Monchengladbach’s attack. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net 14 times and picked up four assists in 22 matches for the German club this season across various competitions.
The nine-time France international has led the line well on his own by averaging 3.3 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. However, he needs to improve his link-up play a little in the final third as he completed just 74.5% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Monchengladbach is set to run out at the end of this campaign. Thus, it makes sense for the Villans to land him on a free transfer next summer.
Is Thuram The Right Fit For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Thuram can engineer space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has also got a knack for creating some decent chances for his teammates to find the back of the net.
The Parma-born talent can make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the final third and has already proven his worth as a capable finish in front of the opponent’s goal. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if his manager tells him to do so.
We can expect Thuram to bring more quality to Aston Villa‘s first XI and help the Villans push for a European spot in the Premier League over the next few years. At 25, the French talent’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Unai Emery to consider in the summer.
However, Thuram could struggle to adapt to the physicality and high intensity of English football. Still, there is no denying that the Bundesliga sensation can be a prolific goal-getter when he is playing well on the pitch. Therefore, he would be a great fit for Emery’s needs at Villa Park right now.
