According to a report from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Sporting CP on a transfer fee in the region of £40 million for Pedro Porro’s move to North London. It is understood that the full-back had already agreed on personal terms with the Lilywhites on a deal until the summer of 2028, but had been waiting for both clubs to finalise the transfer.
Porro’s Impressive Run Of Form For Sporting Lisbon This Season
Porro is in impeccable form since permanently moving to Sporting as even in this campaign he has managed to produce several influential displays to make his presence felt at the right flank. He has found the back of the net on two occasions and created seven assists over nineteen appearances this season across all fronts.
The Spanish talent has been consistent and reliable while featuring on the right flank after averaging 2.6 shots, 2.4 key passes 1.4 tackles, 0.9 clearances and 1.1 dribbles per game in Liga Portugal.
However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 74.9% in first-division football (stats via whoscored).
What Will He Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Porro has produced some dominant displays in the defensive third of the field. He has the ability to time his tackles and can make some clever interceptions to win the ball back for his side. Furthermore, the youngster has proven to be productive on the attacking end as well. He excels at holding on to the ball and making some decent runs down the right flank. He can even set up his teammates by creating meaningful chances using his wide array of crossing abilities.
The youngster’s arrival in North London solves the long-term problem on the right flank. Emerson Royal has failed to prove himself in that position following which Spurs have lacked productivity from that area. Porro can be a real threat going into the wide areas which can allow Kulusevski to venture deep inside the opponent’s backline which will in turn open up attacking opportunities from the right side as well.
The Spanish right-back is capable of tracking back and helping the backline which will take some pressure off of Cristian Romero in a three-man defence allowing him to divert his focus towards the central areas.
Antonio Conte has done well to bring the defender aboard at Tottenham Hotspur as he can help them secure Champions League football next season.
