In a recent report, The Evening Standard claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are still hoping to land Sporting ace Pedro Porro. It is understood that Spurs are still trying to acquire the services of the Spanish talent during this January transfer window.
Porro’s Impressive Form At The Jose Alvalade Stadium This Season
Porro is having a fine campaign in Portuguese football as he has put in a series of eye-catching displays on the right side of Sporting’s defence. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net three times and grabbed 11 assists in 25 matches for the Portuguese club this season across multiple competitions.
The Don Benito-born talent has been a reliable performer on the right flank based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 2.6 shots, 2.4 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Liga Portugal. However, he needs to distribute the ball a bit better from the right-wing, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 74.9% in the Portuguese first division (stats via whoscored).
Porro is under contract at the Jose Alvalade Stadium until the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for Spurs to recruit him before the transfer deadline.
What Will Porro Add To Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte’s Team?
Porro is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and can create some inviting chances for his teammates from the right flank. The Spanish full-back can even strike the ball well from long range and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He mainly operates as a right-back but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player if needed.
Porro will add a lot of quality to Tottenham boss Antonio Conte‘s first XI as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what the Italian tactician demands from his players.
At 23, Porro has got a bright future ahead of him and is well-equipped to be a success story at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in English football. He could even help the North London club compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons. Thus, Conte should focus on going all out to bring him on board before the end of this month.
