Real Madrid entertained Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to grind out a positive result at home. Los Blancos made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 19th minute when Alvaro Morata scored for the visitors. Carlo Ancelotti’s men failed to come up with a response in the first half and went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.
Rodrygo netted the all-important equaliser for Real Madrid in the 79th minute with an excellent effort that took the match to extra time.
Karim Benzema scored in the 104th minute to give Los Blancos the lead before Vinicius Junior killed the contest off by finding the back of the net in the dying embers of extra time. The Cope del Rey clash finished with Real Madrid earning an impressive 3-1 win in front of their home fans.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player fared during the match against Atletico Madrid.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 6.5/10
The Belgian keeper made a few solid saves at the back and conceded just one goal during the 120 minutes.
RB: Nacho – 7/10
He didn’t do much wrong at the back and dealt with the danger when needed.
CB: Eder Militao – 6.5/10
Militao gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field but squandered an excellent opportunity to get his name on the scoresheet.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 6.5/10
The German defender did what was required of him at the back but missed a great chance to score in extra time.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 5/10
Mendy was too slow to react to the danger in the lead-up to Atletico’s opener. He went off with an injury just before the half-time break.
CM: Luka Modric – 6.5/10
The veteran midfielder made a slow start to the game and produced a good performance after half-time.
CM: Eduardo Camavinga – 7/10
Camavinga did well to fill in as a makeshift left-back after Mendy had to go off with an injury.
CM: Toni Kroos – 6/10
He moved the ball well at times but it was a far-from-convincing performance from him tonight.
RW: Federico Valverde – 6/10
Valverde worked hard but failed to make a difference from the right flank.
ST: Karim Benzema – 8/10
The French striker made a real difference by giving his team the lead in extra time.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 8/10
He was a constant menace on the left wing and scored a late goal which put the contest to bed.
Substitutes:
CM: Dani Ceballos – 6/10
Ceballos added some energy to Ancelotti’s midfield.
RW: Rodrygo – 8/10
He came off the bench and scored the all-important equaliser.
RW: Marco Asensio – 7/10
He was a threat in the final third.
CM: Mario Martin – N/A
Martin hardly had any time to influence the game.
CB: Alvaro Odriozola – N/A
He kept things tidy at the back.
