The Premier League is starting to heat up in 2023 as Arsenal and Manchester City are going all out to get the better of each other at the summit of English football. However, a few other top clubs will also try to get into the Premier League title picture with more than half a season still left to be played due to the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup break.
Let’s take a look at the Premier League power rankings, according to the likelihood of each contender winning the league title come May.
7. Chelsea
Chelsea are having a troublesome campaign as they have struggled to string a run of positive results in the Premier League this season. With just 25 points to their name in 16 matches, Graham Potter’s team find themselves in eight-place at the moment.
Unless they can find a way to go on a long winning run, it seems unlikely that the Blues will challenge for the league title this season. However, stranger things have happened in football.
6. Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham are having a similar campaign to their London rivals, Chelsea. They have also had their fair share of injury problems this season which has not done Antonio Conte’s chances of finding consistency any good.
Spurs are in fifth place having collected 30 points in 17 league matches. They are currently 13 points behind their local neighbors, Arsenal and are outside contenders for the Premier League crown.
5. Liverpool
Liverpool have made a rocky start to this campaign but are currently finding some form following the World Cup break. The Reds have won four league matches on the spin and would be eager to have a strong second half to this Premier League season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have acquired 28 points in 16 league matches and find themselves in sixth place of the league table before their showdown away at Brentford. If the Merseyside club can go undefeated in the remainder of this campaign, they might have a chance of challenging Arsenal and Manchester City for the league title. However, that’s a big if considering how leaky Liverpool have been at the back this season.
4. Newcastle United
Newcastle United have enjoyed a brilliant campaign in the Premier League thus far as they have been quite resolute defensively. They have got the division’s best defensive record after conceding only 11 goals in 17 league matches.
The Magpies are currently sitting pretty in third place on the league table. If Eddie Howe’s team can continue their good run in 2023, they would have a decent shot of challenging for the Premier League title later this summer.
3. Manchester United
Manchester United made a tough start to this campaign but have since picked up a run of favourable results which has seen them rise to the fourth place in the league standings.
The Red Devils have collected 32 points in 16 league matches and would be optimistic about their chances of having a say in the title race this season. However, Erik ten Hag’s side has also got the UEFA Europa League to compete in which could derail their efforts to compete for the league crown.
2. Manchester City
Going by their lofty standards, Manchester City have made a mediocre start to this campaign as they have struggled to match Arsenal’s consistency in the English top flight. Still, with Erling Haaland in such fine form for them in the final third, Pep Guardiola’s men would be eager to come back strong in 2023 and finish this season by retaining the Premier League title.
Man City have a really good shot and would be Arsenal’s biggest challenger in this campaign for the most lucrative prize in English football.
1. Arsenal
Arsenal are enjoying a dream season in the Premier League as they have been remarkably consistent in terms of picking up wins in league football. The Gunners are sitting pretty at the top of the league table at the moment, having secured 43 points in 16 league games so far. Mikel Arteta’s men have got a seven-point lead at the top of English football heading into 2023.
The North London outfit are in pole position to secure the league title as long as they do not experience a drop in form in the second half of this Premier League campaign. Based on the football they have showcased this season, the league title is Arsenal’s to lose right now.
