In a recent report from Chronicle Live, it was stated that Newcastle United are planning a move for Nicolo Zaniolo to bring him aboard this summer. It is understood that the young playmaker has refused to sign a contract extension with his current employers which has raised speculations over his exit at the end of this season.
Zaniolo’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
Zaniolo is enjoying a decent campaign with Roma after producing some impressive displays for them in the final third. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net twice and created three assists in 14 matches for the Italian club this season across multiple competitions.
The Italian sensation has been consistent and reliable for Roma in the final third after averaging 2.0 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Serie A. However, he needs to be more careful when distributing possession in the opposition half after completing 69% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His contract at the Stadio Olimpico is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Hence, the Magpies could potentially land him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.
Is Zaniolo The Right Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Zaniolo has the ability to generate space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal and is a decent playmaker in the attacking third of the field. He can easily get out of tight spaces due to his excellent ball control and has the vision to set up his teammates in front of the goal. The Italian forward is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a secondary striker or play as a right-sided winger which depicts his versatility.
He would certainly fight for a regular spot upon his arrival at St. James’ Park. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the final third if he wishes to play at a high level.
We can expect Zaniolo to add more quality and creativity to Newcastle‘s frontline. Therefore, he will be a good fit for the Magpies as long as the player can make a smooth transition into the squad and in the Premier League.
