In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb mentioned that Manchester United are in talks to sign Inter Milan ace Denzel Dumfries. It has been claimed that the Red Devils could face competition in the form of Chelsea in the race to land the Dutch talent.
Dumfries’ Impressive Numbers In Italian Football
Dumfries is enjoying a solid campaign at San Siro as he has managed to catch the eye on the right side of Inter’s midfield. The Rotterdam-born talent has registered two goals and three assists in 23 matches for the Italian club this season in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has done well to average 0.6 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.1 shots and 1.0 key passes per game in Serie A football. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the right flank, based on his pass completion rate of 78.2% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at San Siro is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, Man United could find it difficult to sign him on the cheap during this winter transfer period.
Should Manchester United Head Coach Erik Ten Hag Snap Dumfries Up?
Dumfries is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can strike the ball with venom from long range. The Dutch sensation has got a knack for creating some decent plays for others around him but needs to make more runs with the ball on the right flank. It’s unclear whether he has what it takes to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, we can expect Dumfries to enhance the overall quality of Man United head coach Erik ten Hag‘s match-day squad. He is good enough to rival Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot for a regular starting spot at Old Trafford in the coming seasons.
At 26, Dumfries will only get better in the coming seasons which makes him a decent option for the Red Devils to pursue before the end of this transfer window. Ten Hag has got the managerial experience now to get the best out of the Dutch talent at the Theatre of Dreams over the next few years. Therefore, Man United should think about trying everything they can to snap him up this January or at the end of this season.
