In a recent report, Il Mattino stated that Manchester United are hoping to land Napoli forward Victor Osimhen. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to bring the Nigerian centre-forward to Old Trafford.
Osimhen’s Impressive Record In Italian Football This Season
Osimhen is having a great campaign at Naples as he has been responsible for putting in several match-winning performances as the focal point of the Italian club’s attack. The 24-year-old has featured in 17 matches for Napoli this season, scoring 13 times and grabbing four assists in multiple competitions.
The 23-time Nigeria international deserves a lot of credit for leading the line well and averaging 4.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the final third based on his pass success rate of 73.8% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Naples club will expire in 2025. Hence, Man United will have to launch a big-money offer if they are serious about recruiting the talented striker.
Should Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Get Osimhen On Board?
Osimhen has shown that he can create space for himself to get a few shots in at goal and can be a prolific finisher in front of the opponent’s half when he is playing well on the field. The Nigeria international is proficient at engineering some decent openings for his teammates up top. Osimhen is usually quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty box. Standing at 1.86m, he can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels on the attacking third of the pitch.
At the moment, Osimhen is playing some of the best football of his playing career. Hence, he will be a good choice for the Red Devils this year as he could bring a lot of firepower to Erik ten Hag‘s frontline.
We can expect Osimhen to inject some pace and goals into Man United’s attack. He has what it takes to make himself a regular starter at Old Trafford. All in all, the Mancunian giants should focus on getting the Nigerian forward on board before the end of this ongoing transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether Osimhen can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Man United can devise a way to recruit him soon.
