In a recent report, Defensa Central stated that Manchester City have set their sights on Real Madrid full-back Ferland Mendy. It has been mentioned that Man City are eyeing a move to sign the French talent next summer.
Mendy’s Good Run Of Form For Real Madrid This Season
Mendy has experienced a solid campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium as he has put in a run of impressive displays on the left side of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. The 27-year-old has participated in 18 matches for Los Blancos this season, picking up one assist in the process across various competitions.
The French sensation has been a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 92.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal with Los Blancos is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for Man City to land him on the cheap this year.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Bring Mendy On Board?
Mendy is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can create some decent plays for others around him. He is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and is quite experienced at the highest level.
We can expect Mendy to add more quality to Pep Guardiola‘s defence at the Etihad Stadium. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Manchester club and could help them challenge for even more top honours in the coming seasons.
At 27, Mendy has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for Man City to pursue later this year. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting the French talent as he has what it takes to become an important member of Guardiola’s first XI. Thus, the Mancunian giants should think about going all out to get him on board this month or at the end of this campaign.
