Newcastle United entertained Southampton at St. James’ Park earlier tonight as they hoped to grind out a good result away from home. The Magpies made a bright start to the game and got their noses ahead courtesy of Sean Longstaff’s goal in the fifth minute. Longstaff doubled his team’s advantage just 16 minutes later when he found the back of the net once again for the home side. Che Adams got a goal back for the Saints in the 29th minute as Eddie Howe’s men went into the half-time break 2-1 up on the scoreline.
Bruno Guimaraes let his teammates down by getting sent off in the 82nd minute but Newcastle hung on to secure a narrow 2-1 win at home. They won the EFL Cup semifinal tie by a 3-1 scoreline which booked their place in the final of the competition.

GK: Nick Pope – 6.5/10
The English keeper made a couple of solid saves at the back but failed to keep a clean sheet tonight.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 7.5/10
Trippier gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field and made some decent chances in the final third. He has got an assist to show for his efforts.
CB: Fabian Schar – 7/10
He didn’t do much wrong on the defensive end of the pitch and was a threat at the other end as well.
CB: Sven Botman – 6/10
Botman didn’t do much wrong at the back and was a good presence on the ball.
LB: Dan Burn – 6/10
Burn made two clearances at the back and engineered one key chance in the final third.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 9/10
Longstaff earned the ball back a few times for his team and scored two good goals in the first half which helped Newcastle cruise to a comfortable 3-1 win on aggregate.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 6/10
He was unfortunate to hit the post and let his teammates down by getting sent off in the 82nd minute.
CM: Joe Willock – 6.5/10
Willock got stuck in with some solid tackles and made one good run with the ball.
RW: Miguel Almiron – 7/10
He had a few bright moments in the game but failed to find the back of the net. However, Almiron has got an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Callum Wilson – 6.5/10
Wilson caused a few problems for the Southampton defenders but never looked like he would score.
LW: Joelinton – 7/10
He got stuck in with some solid tackles and made some decent runs with the ball.

Isak was a threat in the final third.

He added some pace to Newcastle’s attack.
